Open Practice
Humans are self-organising organisms with an adaptable structure. As such, this structure can be sculpted based on the environmental stressors that they are exposed to. However, In order for us to be sculpted in a beneficial way, we need to assimilate ourselves within an environment that provides the opportunity for these positive changes to occur.
Our practice is based on the principles of the sciences, movement arts, our ancestral roots, learning and human development. Through these principles and the medium of variable movement situations, this practice teaches us how to create patterns and order through what can be seemingly chaotic, and as a result, allows us to create our own unique individualism in how we move without the need to conform to any particular movement style.
Practice at Joint Space provides an opportunity for people from all backgrounds of all experiences from beginners to elite athletes, to explore movement and all that comes with a practice.
Book your sessionThe principles of our practice aims to teach people how to observe and explore their physical potential, and to see how this relates to how we move through life from both a philosophical and physiological perspective. From a physiological perspective, the practice shows us how to move in a more efficient and coordinated way, improve movement in our joints, create strength and resilience, and reduce the chance of injuries and pain, providing a catalyst to achieve our kinetic and athletic potential.
From a philosophical perspective, we refer to our movement training as ‘practice’ as we believe that a practice permeates everything that we do in our daily lives. Rather than just a few hours a week spent exercising, a practice is an all enveloping philosophy influencing how we move through life. Whilst movement and athletic training itself is a key component, it is not the only component of our practice. Learning about ourselves by understanding our adaptability, structural integrity, and plasticity of our own individual architecture, combined with how we choose to communicate, collaborate and coordinate within ourselves and with others whilst under physical pressure, gives us an indication of who we are from a much wider perspective than just how strong, flexible or coordinated we might be. A physical practice is a doorway into a much more meaningful understanding of who we are, and this is what we want to share through our practice at Joint Space.
